Racehorse Trainer John Dunlop decides to retire

One of best trainers in the world, John Dunlop has announced his intention to retire in November which is at the end of this year’s Flat racing season. John has been one of the most successful trainers in the sport, and is well known to be a respected gentleman who is loved by everyone in the business. The trainer won the Epsom Derby twice with Shirley Heights and Erhaab, in addition to three winners of the St Ledger and 1000 Guineas. John was also a winning trainer twice for the Oaks.

Betting blog sites will sorely miss him, as it would come as no surprise that punters and online betting operators would always have to keep an eye out for any horses from his stable being entered in any race. John Dunlop trained in excess of three thousand winners, an incredible record which reflects his training practices and his eye for developing horses and seeing the potential in every one of them.

Willie Carson, one of the most successful jockeys of our generation, rode literally hundreds of winners for John. One of his most famous rides and wins would be Derby, riding Erhaab to victory. Carson always respected the trainer and the man, and was quoted as saying John Dunlop is ‘one of the true legends of the sport’.

The future of the family in horse racing is secure, as John’s sons Ed and Harry have followed in their dad’s footsteps and have become successful trainers. There is no doubt that Ed and Harry will still be able to learn from their father’s advice and experience, which will go a long way in ensuring that we keep on witnessing great winners at the most famous of race meetings! Keep an eye on our betting blog to hear of any future developments.
