Aston Villa Kick Manchester City Out of the Capital One Cup

Aston Villa progressed to the next round of the Capital One Cup in spite of playing away from home against one of the high flyers of the English Premier League, Manchester City. Mancini made ten changes to his team, which last played against Arsenal, and probably thought there would be no problem in overcoming Villa at the Etihad Stadium. But the visitors did start very well, and it seemed that City may have a hard time, especially with the amount of changes to the squad, which is what all the betting blog sites seem to be expecting.

City did take the lead in the first half, but Villa equalized after the half time break. Kolarov scored an awesome free kick to give the home team the lead again, but Villa refused to give up and Agbonlahor scored with 20 minutes to go and forced the game into extra time. Here is where Villa showed that they were the team who wanted it more. Paul Lambert would be impressed with his team’s spirit and stamina, as they counter attacked brilliantly to win the game  2 – 4.

It was a great win for Villa after their humiliating 4-1 loss against Southampton. Manchester City, on the other hand, would not be pleased. Even with the ten changes to the team, and the more than likely fact that the Cup would not be the main priority, it still showed up defensive frailties that need to be sorted. Mancini’s team has already conceded thirteen goals in seven games this season, and if this continues it will probably cost them the Premier League title.
